THE MECHANICS BANK PRESENTS MORE THAN $49,000 TO LOCAL SCHOOLS

Oakland A's Program a Home Run

RICHMOND, CA, Sept. 17, 2007 – For the fourth straight year, The Mechanics Bank has sponsored the East Bay’s popular Oakland Athletics ticket sales program, “Step Up To The Plate For Education,” to raise money for local schools. On Monday, September 17, 2007, the bank handed over a check for more than $49,000 to Superintendent Bruce Harter of the West Contra Costa School District, the results of the season-long fundraising effort.

The Oakland Athletics initiated Step Up To The Plate a few years ago in response to the West Contra Costa School District’s announcement that devastating across-the-board cuts were inevitable due to the District’s precarious finances. The Mechanics Bank, headquartered in Richmond and with a century of ties to the community, offered to step in as a sponsor.

Each year, participating school and district offices and offices of The Mechanics Bank have touted and distributed order forms for A's tickets to select games. The A’s donate up to $10 for each ticket directly back to the schools.

In addition to distributing the order forms, The Mechanics Bank underwrote promotional spots and radio airtime for the program. It even held its “employee family picnic” day at the A’s game, with proceeds from the ticket purchases for more than 500 employees and their families included in the program revenue.

“No doubt about it—this really makes a difference to local schools,” said Steve Buster, The Mechanics Bank CEO. “And, it is perfectly in keeping with our mission to help build prosperous communities as a trusted financial partner.”

The Mechanics Bank is headquartered in Richmond, California. The century-old family-owned community bank is one of the largest independent banks headquartered in Northern California, with more than $2.7 billion in assets.
